TwoSense: Ashley Bathgate cello and Lisa Moore piano
A New York based chamber duo and commissioning venture
TwoSense is the New York-based chamber duo and commissioning venture, established in 2010 by the Bang On A Can All-Stars cellist Ashley Bathgate and founding alumna pianist Lisa Moore -“All Stars from the All Stars” (The New York Times). The duo have been described as “the daring and impressive cello-piano duo” (The New Yorker), the “new music equivalent of a special ops team” (New York Magazine), an “excellent duo” and “eloquent new-music interpreters” (New York Times). TwoSense have performed at Bargemusic, National Sawdust, (le) poisson rouge, Rubin Museum, Spectrum, Bang on a Can 25th Anniversary Marathon (World Financial Center), Roulette, Detroit Institute for the Arts, The Presidio San Francisco, MIT, Wesleyan and Yale Universities as well as at festivals in Saratoga NY and Columbia SC. TwoSense have commissioned 13 new works by composers Samuel Carl Adams, Martin Bresnick, Ryan Brown, Paul Dresher, Stephen Feigenbaum, Daniel Felsenfeld, Paul Kerekes, Amy Beth Kirsten, Hannah Lash, Ingram Marshall, Kate Moore, Jack Perla and Daniel Wohl – with funding from Meet the Composer, Barlow and Fromm Foundations. TwoSense have released recordings on Albany, Starkland, Minmax Music and Bandcamp. Of their Starkland recording “Prayers Remain Forever” (by Martin Bresnick) Fanfare wrote “both dig deeply into their material…building to a rock-solid conclusion…they give a powerhouse rendition.”
Programs range from Bach, Beethoven, Debussy, Prokofiev, Schnittke, Ustvolskaya, and Janacek through to commissioned works by living composers: Martin Bresnick, Ryan Brown, Paul Dresher, Stephen Feigenbaum, Daniel Felsenfeld, Paul Kerekes, Amy Beth Kirsten, Hannah Lash, Ingram Marshall, Kate Moore, Jack Perla and Daniel Wohl.
