Ensemble Signal
Ensemble Signal was created to address a pressing need in contemporary cultural life. A diverse range of visionary composers in the U.S. and beyond have created a distinguished body of work for flexible contemporary chamber ensemble (1-30+ orchestral instruments), but few professional American ensembles exist to promote this important repertoire, which ranges from the flexibility and intimacy of solo and chamber music to the power and sonic variety of works for contemporary ensemble. We aim to offer the broadest possible audience accessibility to a diverse range of contemporary music through performance, education, commissioning, and recording.
“Ensemble Signal and its music director, Brad Lubman, bring the music’s sounds (Signal/Reich Music for 18 on Harmonia Mundi), textures, and shapes into amazingly sharp focus…” — The Boston Globe (May 23, 2015)
“There’s tremendous, unstoppable energy in this performance (Signal/Reich Music for 18 on Harmonia Mundi), an urgent edge to its textures and a surging power to its thrilling climaxes, that make the greatness of the music unmistakable.” — The Guardian – 5 stars (May 21, 2015)
“Even if more recordings are released next year to celebrate the 40th anniversary of this work, Steve Reich’s instant classic, none will likely be more sensational than this (Signal/Reich Music for 18 on Harmonia Mundi).” — The New York Times
